What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Catering Manager, the role of Cook is to plan and prepare a menu of nutritious and high-quality meals, snacks and drinks for customers whilst providing a training and skills development opportunity for Learning Disabled and Autistic adults and young people.

You will comply with all Food Hygiene Regulations, ensuring that kitchen and equipment work areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard and that stock and budgets are controlled at all times.

You will be required to work on your own initiative, as well as part of a team and possess good relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers.

Specific duties include: 

  • To support people to prepare a menu of hot and cold food, snacks, drinks and other café items

  • To prepare a menu’s and ordering of food within set budget parameters using approved suppliers to achieve a high quality of food and presentation at all times

  • To change the menu’s on a regular basis at least seasonally

  • To prepare meals for people with additional dietary requirements including diabetics, PKU diets, blended meals and allergies as a minimum

  • To oversee the smooth running of the kitchen

  • To support and empower people to achieve their goals and ambitions in line with their Vocational Profiles

About you

  • You will have experience of preparing and costing menus
  • You will have experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities
  • You will have the ability to communicate effectively with a supported person and their family/Carer and other professionals
  • You will have the ability to monitor food and health and safety standards and maintain required records, ensuring compliance with legislation and regulation Ability to reconcile cash transactions in accordance with cash handling procedures
  • You will have the ability to work as part of a team
